Microsoft releases security update to Windows Update

Microsoft has released an update to Windows Update, according to the software giant to enhance the security of Windows Update. The update should provide more secure communication between the update servers and Windows users and should also 'further harden the infrastructure used by Windows update'.

The update is applicable for most recent Windows versions, including Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012. The update should become available as early as today and will become available as any other update, meaning the update will be automatically installed if Automatic Updates is turned ON, either set to automatically install updates or notify to download/install updates.

Users on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 with update 2919355 already have the updated version of Windows version, as these versions of Windows already include the update.

In it's blog post announcing the update Microsoft stresses, "It's important to keep your PC up to date with the latest updates to keep your PC running smoothly and safely."
