Microsoft removes criticized WiFi sharing feature from Windows 10

Microsoft has decided to remove a heavily criticized feature from Windows 10. The feature is called Wi-Fi Sense and can be used to share WiFi logins with Facebook, Skype and Outlook contacts without providing them with the password.  It will be removed this summer because it is hardly used.

Microsoft already deleted the code from Wi-Fi Sense from its latest Technical Preview from Windows 10, the code will also be removed from all other Windows 10 computers with the upcoming Anniversary Update.

Wi-Fi Sense was criticized because it was considered a security risk. According to Windows expert Ed Bott the feature is safe because no WiFi passwords are shared and users only get access to the WiFi network and not to any files. And while the feature is enabled by default, users have to specifically enable it per WiFi network. So it's not possible for anyone to use the WiFi network of an user without explicit permission.
