Microsoft reports milestone of 350 million Windows 10 users

Microsoft reports that Windows 10 currently has 350 million users, 11 months after the the OS was officially released. The first large update to Microsoft's latest OS is expected for the 2nd of August this year.

Windows 10 was released on the 29th of July 2015 and Microsoft reported the milestone of 200 million users in January this year. By the end of May this year this number increased to 270 million. According to Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Windows, Terry Myerson, the OS is Microsoft's fastest growing Windows version while users are above average satisfied with it.

The number of monthly users switching to Windows 10 is also increasing. At the beginning about 20 million users switched to Windows 10 each month, currently that is about 29 million each month.

The first large update to Windows 10, called the Anniversary Update, is scheduled for the 2nd of August. This update contains new features for both PCs and the Xbox One. When the update is applied Cortana should be more intelligent and the OS should be able to recognize better what users write with a stylus on a touchscreen.

It also makes it possible for users to login using biometrical data on Microsoft's Edge browser. This should make it possible to login to website using e.g. a fingerprint. It will also become possible to play PC games together with Xbox One gamers through Xbox Live.

It's possible till the end of July for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users to update for free to Windows 10. After that the OS will likely cost $119.
