Microsoft to phase out Control Panel in Windows 10

Microsoft is planning to remove the 'Control Panel' in favor of 'Settings' in Windows 10, according to the company's Senior Program Manager on the Windows Insider Program Team, Brandon LeBlanc.

Windows 10 users are normally directed to the 'Settings' screen in Windows 10 as it's directly available from the start menu. To get to the 'Control Panel', which is similar to that of earlier Windows versions, users have to either find it in Explorer or search for it in the search bar.

The Setting screen is a limited version of the Control Panel and is in Modern UI style. Users that want to change settings of their computer often find they are switching between the two screens. It appears Microsoft is trying to bring this to an end and will phase out the Control Panel in favor of Settings.

Microsoft's Gabe Aul also notes that having two ways of changing settings isn't optimal, as it requires more code to manage, more RAM usage and more storage space.

Some users are disappointed by that decision as they consider Settings to be less intuitive than the Control Panel and according to them, it also crashes more often.
