Microsoft to plan 'Blue' update to Windows 8, or is it Windows 9?

ZDNet writer and Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley is reporting that while several sites have started to write about Windows 9, the information they are talking about is probably an update to Windows 8 that goes by the code name 'Blue'.  The update should come in the summer of next year and it's unclear if it can be compared to the Service Packs (SP) Windows users have become used to. The service packs usually contain a wide range of bug fixes and patches and sometimes some additional enhancements to the operating system.

For Windows 8 is expected that Microsoft will use more smaller updates, likely using the same strategy as Apple uses with 8.x updates. So the Blue update could become Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.5, but there is no reason why a big update could not be called Windows 9. Nevertheless we hope that Microsoft will use this update to evaluate Modern UI (previously Metro) and when appropiate remove it.
