The update is scheduled for September, according to Microsoft's Gabriel Aul. Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 will only become available for tablets that run Windows RT, a Windows 8 and 8.1 version specifically designed for tablets with ARM processors. The best known RT devices are the Surface 2 and the Lumia 2520, both manufactured by Microsoft.

It's unknown what the update will contain, Microsoft so far only states it will make more information available in a later stage. It will supposedly bring some default apps and services of Windows 10 to RT tablets, such as Groove Music and the Edge browser.

In contrary to ARM tablets, there is a Windows 10 variant for ARM smartphones. Lumia phones and several smartphones of other manufacturers can expect an update to Windows 10 Mobile later this year.
