Microsoft: Windows 8 sales comparable to Windows 7

While there is still a lot of criticism on Windows 8 the software is selling well, if we have to believe Microsoft. The software company from Redmond has told ZDNet that currently 60 million copies of its latest operating system have been sold. In November 2012 the number was around 40 million and Microsoft claims that the numbers can be compared to the sales of Windows 7.

Included in the numbers are sales in retails but also OEM licenses which are sold to computer manufacturers to install them on the computers they sell. Also upgrades from previous versions of Windows to Windows 8 are included. ZDNet mentions that it's unclear whether also business and bulk licenses are included in the 60 million.

At the end of November last year Microsoft announced that it had sold 40 million licenses which means that the sales of Windows 8 which was introduced at the end of October seems to have slowed down the last months. On the other hand Windows 7 is a big success, according to a Microsoft spokesman around 90% of Microsoft's enterprise customers are on this OS.
