According to Brix more than 90 percent of the desktop app downloads and 65 percent of the Windows Phone app downloads come from systems running Windows 8.1. Microsoft doesn't report the exact numbers of downloads but more than a year ago the number of daily downloads from the Windows Store was 1.7 million.

Microsoft will announce more information on the consumer version of Windows 10 this month. Developers will need to make their apps ready for for the new operating system which should unite the interface on the desktop, tablet and smartphone.
