'Microsoft's Surface Phone will be targeted at business users and won't be released this year'

The much anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone will likely not become a consumer product and will not be released this year, according to sources. Many users hoped for a high-end consumer phone but it appears Microsoft will target business users with the smartphone, ZDNet reports.

The Redmond technology giant is likely not trying to compete with Apple's iPhones or Samsung's Galaxy phones. Nevertheless, the phone is allegedly using an ARM CPU.

To appeal to business users the phone should have special features that should provide an improved workflow, such a Continuum that allows Windows 10 smartphones to connect to an external display so it can be used as a full fledged Windows 10 desktop.

Last week HP announced its Elite X3 smartphone which also supports Continuum and can run x86 apps by using a special HP service.
