Mozilla releases first public preview of Firefox for iOS

Mozilla yesterday announced the release of a public version of Firefox for iOS. The browser developer currently only allows users in New Zealand to install the app, as it first wants to collect feedback from users.

Earlier this year Mozilla promised it would release Firefox on all platforms, the iOS version will become available to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The test in New Zealand should help Mozilla to gather feedback on the browser and to find out what users want and need in the iOS version of its Firefox browser. Firefox will render pages exactly like Safari because Apple doesn't allow third parties to release apps with their own render engine. Mozilla hopes to differentiate from Safari by bringing its own Firefox look-and-feel and features to iOS.

Such features are Intelligent Search that shows search suggestions, visual tabs, that provides an overview of open tabs

It's unclear when the final version of Firefox for iOS will be released and whether Mozilla will also release more preview version in other countries.
