The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) supported by the top five film studios has now decided that mobile phone users, and in particular mobile phone apps, are now also fair game in their ever continuing war against video piracy.
They're now analysing mobile phone apps to determine if they contain stills or video clips from movies and has already served notice on Google to have many apps removed.
Actions were most recently taken against the 'Hobbit 3D Wallpaper HD' app which allows users to use selected stills from The Hobbit movie as wallpaper on their smartphones.
The MPAA alleges that apps containing pirated content "pose risks to consumers from malware".
According to the MPAA apps are a "growing problem" that needs to be addressed.
Whether most users see it this way or not remains extremely doubtful.
