mSpot brings movie streaming to iPhones and iPads

mSpot has released its Movies iPad app so that Apple iPad owners have another option when looking to stream content.  The company released the iPhone Movies App about a month ago -- and while the app itself is free, users must pay to rent and purchase movies.

Both Wi-Fi and 3G mobile connections are supported with the mSpot iPad app -- and video quality is modified depending on network coverage and 3G speed.  Another interesting feature is the ability to control movies using a PC, and then continue watching using a phone.

Current iPad owners are able to watch full-length movies by renting or purchasing them through Apple iTunes, or using Netflix through the iPad app.  The movies vary between $2.99 and $3.99 each to rent, and can be streamed immediately once rented.

"We get asked how we are different from Netflix," said Daren Tsui, mSpot CEO, in a statement.  "They may have 10,000 titles to stream, but you probably don't want to watch 9,995 of them.  It's all old stuff.  Ours has the latest and greatest -- Green Zone, Alice in Wonderland, you name it."

Despite the popularity of mSpot, some critics have taken aim at the company's CEO, with one blogger calling him a liar.  I don't agree with that blogger's statements, but it just goes to show how much work mSpot must do to help change the company's image further.

mSpot already has a similar service available to Google Android-powered smartphones, and continues to expand their mobile presence.  Netflix is available for $8.99 per month and includes unlimited streaming movies, but mSpot's rental app is ideal for customers looking to just stream one or two titles each month.

If mSpot can offer content that Netflix can't, then they should have a good chance at attracting customers, if they can convince people to install their apps.
