MvixUSA launches 1080p MX-880HD PVR

MvixUSA today launched the ULTIO Pro MX-880HD PVR-capable media player with HDD, able to support video output up to 1080p.

The Ultio Pro has storage capability up to 2TB, and includes an HDMI port, ethernet, two USB hosts, USB 2.0, multi-format memory card slot, IR remote, and composite and coaxial digital audio.

Video support includes DivX, Quicktime, Xvid, MKV, h.264, and other popular video formats that include codecs supported on the PC.  The player doesn't have integrated wireless, so Wi-Fi can only be used if a consumer purchases an extra adapter.

If a consumer just wants to purchase the model without a HDD, they can put a 3.5" HDD into the Ultio Pro.  Owners can use personal video recording, a built-in torrent client, and network media playback so content can be shared over the home network.

Unfortunately the device doesn't have Netflix or Hulu support, but does have PlayOn and Tversity support.

It seems the D-Link Boxee box may be a better suited choice for consumers, but we'll have to wait to see how the devices compare.  We like that the Boxee box has support for just about any online streaming service, while the Ultio Pro does not.

The MvixUSA Ultio Pro MX-800HD with no HDD will be available for $169, while the 2TB HDD model will be available for $348. Both products are now on pre-order and ship dates have not yet been announced.
