Feature packed NEC 3D Blu-ray PC launching next month

NEC has announced that they will begin offering the Valuestar N VN790/BS all-in-one 3D PC in Japan, starting next month.

This all inclusive machine/display includes a 20-inch 3D LCD screen with 1600x900 resolution and a 3D Blu-ray drive. The monitor and system are fused together in one standalone structure.

The 3D machine will be powered by a yet-to-be-announced Intel Mobile Core CPU, 4GB of memory (expandable to 8GB), a 1TB 7200 rpm HDD, an integrated TV tuner and presumably an NEC slimline 3D Blu-ray optical disc drive. Software wise, it ships with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Cyberlink PowerDVD 3D, I-O DATA DigiCame3D Viewer LE, I-O DATA DigitalVideo3D Player LE and Microsoft Office Home and business 2010.

The system will obviously support 3D Blu-ray content, but it will also be able to simulate pseudo 3D using 2D content, using 2D photos & DVD video.

The system also ships with a wireless keyboard, 1 set of 3D glasses ($67 for an extra pair) and a remote control. With all these features, this system is also geared towards television/DVR usage.

The included DVR features also seem to be useful. NEC claims the system can record 4 times more terrestrial HD broadcasts than other systems, due to its "long HD recording" technology. The software includes a feature to skip unnecessary scenes (ads?) and also allows users to control video playback via voice commands. Recording capacity can also be increased via an external USB HDD.

The NEC Valuestar N VN790/BS 3D PC ships at the end of next month for approximately $2,450, in Japan only. No word on a possible release to other parts of the world.
