In a job posting on the Netflix website the company states that it's currently looking for several new distribution technologies for its video content. The company is searching for a developer with a lot of experience on P2P technology and who wants to test new software for Netflix and eventually implement it. One of the function requirements is experience with Bittorrent and having contributed code to open source implementations of the popular P2P protocol.

The job posts reveals that Netflix sees big opportunities in P2P, which means subscribers of the video streaming service download data from each other. This can save the company, that consumes enormous amounts of bandwidth, a lot of money.

Netflix called the rise of Popcorn Time, an easy to use application which uses the Bittorrent protocol to illegally stream movies and series, a serious threat for its company. Nevertheless, Bittorrent can also be used for legal content which Netflix now appears to be interested in.
