New connectors to end all shortcomings of USB

A new USB cable and connector without an up and down side has been pictured. The new USB Type-C should fix all current USB shortcomings. The Type USB-C connectors are small enough to fit in mobile phones and the connectors on both ends are the same. The specification should be finalized in July this year and USB Type-C cables should become available by the end of year.

USB has been an incredible success, currently allowing to connect pretty much any device but also commonly used to charge devices such as tablets and mobile phones. Unfortunately as the USB standard evolved more types of connectors became available with different connectors on each end of the cable. Also plugging in cables could be an annoyance as the connector had to be plugged in with the right side up.

The new Type-C connector should make sure all these shortcoming come to an end. The cables will also support data transfers of up to 10 Gbps as specified by USB 3.1. Unfortunately the new connectors are smaller than current PC USB plugs but larger than the Micro-USB connectors used on mobile phones.
