New SandForce controllers announced: longer battery life while faster

LSI, the company behind the SandForce controller, found in SSDs of many well known SSD manufacturers, has announced that it has given the SandForce controllers an upgrade. The upgrade should reduce power consumption and LSI even claims that a computer with an SSD using their latest controller will have up to one hour more battery life. Besides using less power, LSI also claims that the controllers should have gotten a performance increase.

To make the controllers more suitable for Ultrabooks, they have become thinner.  All of them support SATA-3 and support capacities ranging from 24GB and 5125GB of MLC NAND and up to 128GB of SLC NAND memory. They also support AES encryption (up to AES-25 after an upgrade) and have several optimization technologies onboard.
