The new Sony VAIO TT notebooks offer high performance in a thin chassis. At only 11.1” and weighing 1.3kg the TT aims at mobile users. Under the hood it features a powerful Centrino processor and optional support for Blu-ray and SSDs. However, the TT is certainly not intended for people with thin wallets, as prices for Blu-ray models start at $2700.
Proudly announced by Sony as the “World lightest Blu-ray notebook”, the VAIO TT series offer High Definition on-the-go. The TT has several energy saving technologies, the light sensor being one of them. This sensor automatically optimizes the LCD brightness, thereby providing optimal reading comfort and saving battery power. According to Sony, a typical TT model should have up to 7,5 hours of standard battery life.

As for the High-Definition part, the Blu-Ray equipped TT models are able to act as a standalone Blu-ray player, offering full HD (1080p) support using a HDMI connection. The 16:9 aspect ratio of the screen is according to Sony “ideal for watching Blu-ray movies”, since HD movies are shot in this widescreen ratio. However, because the resolution of the 11.1” screen is only 1366×768, Blu-ray movies are more fully enjoyed on a flat screen television supporting Full-HD.
So all in all, the VAIO TT offers customers more options to choose from opposed to the netbooks with the same specifications as an Asus EEE or all those lookalikes in the $300-$400 range. However, since models with SSDs start from $2750, be prepared to pay over $3000 for a TT equipped with both Blu-ray and SSDs.
Update:
For those of you with deep pockets – check out the VAIO TT Series Notebook PC VGNTT290NAW and the VAIO TT Series Notebook PC VGNTT290YCX which has a whopping 256 GB SSD drive.
