New Zealand ISP offers method to bypass blocking of media sites

The New Zealand ISP Slingshot has developed an interesting service for their customers to bypass restrictions on media files.  Many sites, like Netflix, Hulu and others, block access to certain types of media  when you are not in one of the "approved" countries designated to receive this data.  And other sites, like Amazon, Microsoft and Apple charge different rates for different countries.

Slingshot's Global Mode service is officially meant for visitors to New Zealand to receive the same sorts of social services that they had access to in their own countries.  But since this service hides one's location, the regular customers of Slingshot can also use it to get around those annoying restrictions on video, music, and social sites.  Basically it works like a VPN, built within one's own service provider.

Since many countries have to wait weeks, or even months for certain tv shows or movies, this type of service may become very popular in those countries that are not on the A list for media releases.  Of course, accessing these restricted sites in this manner probably breaks service agreements, so the fallout and backlash from the media providers may get loud very quickly.
