Next Generation Sandforce Controller expected in 4th Quarter of 2014

Sandforce first released information about their next SSD controller technology back in November of 2013, and it was originally scheduled to be in the market by the first half of this year.  Samples of the SF3700 controller were available at CES in January, and at Computex in June, but the actual release has been pushed back time and again.  This new controller has a nine-channel interface, support for both SATA and PCIe standards, and can handle up to 2TB of flash.

There is now a bit of leaked information at the Chinese version of VR-Zone that says we can expect the chip to finally arrive in Q4 of this year.  When the chip will make it into consumer drives is still uncertain, as the Q4 date seems to apply for bulk purchases from manufacturers.

Solid information about the performance of the chip is not confirmed, though the Chinese site does say that "preliminary benchmarks show 3-4x better mixed workload performance than [the] nearest competitor."  This would be welcome news, if we could figure out who the "nearest competitor" might possibly be, and if we could take this rumor more seriously.

In any case, lets wish Sandforce success in this newest controller.
