OCZ updates firmware of Vertex 3, Agility 3, Solid 3 and more

OCZ released new firmwares for Solid State Drives (SSDs) of the Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3 and Solid 3 series. OCZ states that updating the firmware only works when the drive is not the Windows system disk and recommends to make the SSD the secondary drive when updating the firmware.

OCZ offered a tool to even update when the SSD was the primary drive but this seems to be removed from the OCZ forums.  The update brings several improvements and fixes. It also adds a feature called Enhanced Secure Erase which should behave similar to regular Secure Erase. Here is the full changelog:

• Added Enhanced Secure Erase Feature (Behaviour same as standard Secure Erase)
• Fixed a race condition where a write command during the SATA error handling process could cause the drive to hang
• Improve WHCK TRIM performance on Win8
• Improved unsafe shutdown recovery error handling
• Improved power state transitions from PS6 to PS1
• Fixed a timeout issue during SATA error recovery
• Fixed an issue that could hang the self-SMART test
• Fixes issue with SMART Attribute 174 (unexpected power cycle) would still increment after Standby Immediate command was received and drive was power cycled
