OCZ Vertex 2 has arrived here at MyCE.com

The OCZ Vertex 2 has arrived here at MyCE.com for testing and review.

By now you must have heard about the new SSD controller that the Vertex 2 is using. Just in case you haven’t, the SSD controller is by Sandforce. Sandforce have two SSD controllers at the moment, the SF1500 enterprise class controller, and the SF1200 consumer grade controller. The OCZ Vertex 2 uses the consumer grade controller, the SF1200.

It is reported that OCZ struck a special deal with Sandforce for the variant of the SF1200 SSD controller used in the Vertex 2, giving the Vertex 2 enterprise class 4k random write performance.

We will be putting the OCZ Vertex 2 through our usual in-depth testing and will bring you a full review of the OCZ Vertex 2 very soon, but I thought you may like to have a sneak peek at the performance of the OCZ Vertex 2.

Note the supplied 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch converter tray supplied with the OCZ Vertex 2, allowing the drive to be easily mounted in a desktop PC.

It is widely known that the Intel X25-M series of SSD has always dominated when it comes to 4k random write performance, and the Intel was also excellent when running a Workstation user pattern. Intel no longer have this all to themself. The OCZ Vertex 2 quite easily beats the Intel SSDs in this department.

The OCZ Vertex 2, showing more than 3x the performance compared to the Intel X25-M

A Workstation user pattern, and again the OCZ Vertex 2 quite easily leaves the Intel X25-M in its wake.

This is only a teaser; look out for the full in-depth review of the OCZ Vertex 2 in the coming days.
