OCZ will soon release a SandForce based SSD

SSD technology is moving along at a frightful pace. This year the SSD has got faster and more reliable, and OCZ Technology have played a big part in this with their Indilinx Barefoot based Vertex and Agility MLC and SLC series SSD.

Not one to stand on their laurels, OCZ will soon launch a new series of SSD based on the extremely powerful SandForce SSD controller, offering 260MBs sequential read/write performance, and a possible 150MBs 4k random read/writing performance.

SandForce comes in two flavours.

  • SF-1500 enterprise class controller.
  • SF-1200 consumer class controller.
  • Both controllers feature ECC which should provide good compatibility with a wide range of NAND flash memory, giving scope for OCZ to have a budget series based on cheaper NAND, and a super fast series based on high performance NAND flash memory.

The new drives will also be available in various capacities, from 50GB to 400GB. Also mentioned in the press release is, the drive will be available in more than just SATA 3Gbs, a SAS 6Gbs is also mentioned, but no mention of SATA 6Gbs. Perhaps we will have to wait for Indilinx to get their new JetStream SSD controller to market before we see SATA 6Gbs SSD.
