One click tool removes ads from all Windows 8 Metro apps

A new tool (mirror) makes it possible to remove advertisements in all Metro applications installed on your system. The tool works by running a script which replaces files in the protected directory Program Files / WindowsApps. The first release only supported a couple of Metro apps, but the developer now claims that it also works on build-in apps like Weather, Travel and Sports. Also full page video advertisements are removed since the last version.

Unfortunately not everyone is successful in getting the ads removed the developer is actively supporting the tool.

With previous Windows versions Microsoft's only revenue came from license sales. With Windows 8 the company opened new revenue stream. The company takes 20-30% of the sales of Windows 8 applications and also takes an unknown cut of the advertisements shown in Windows 8 applications. On mobile operating systems ads are very common, Microsoft was the first to bring advertisements to a desktop operating system.
