OWC launches Mercury Accelsior, both MAC & PC bootable PCIe SSD

Other World Computing (OWC), a company which specialises in both Macintosh and PC SSD products has announced its OWC Mercury Accelsior, the first PCIe SSD that is bootable in both MAC and PC computers.

The SSD features data transfer rates of up to 780MB/s read and 648MB/s write, faster than what is capable over an SATA3 (6Gbps) port. The SSD can also handle up to 100,000 IOPS, making it ideal for I/O intensive applications such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Avid Pro tools, not to mention high speed booting.

The SSD is AHCI compliant, is driven by Dual LSI SandForce SF-2281/82 processors and claims to be able to operate driver-free. The SSD is also designed to work in entry level servers including business-critical applications such as online transaction processing databases.

Capacities and pricing include 120GB (2 x 64GB) for $399.99, 480GB (2 x 256GB) for $979.99 and 960GB (2 x 500GB) for $2,179.99. A 240GB model (2 x 128GB) will be priced at $549.99 and expected to be available in May. All are backed by a 3 year warranty. Further details in the original press release.
