Panasonic Premium SSDs spotted, OCZ inside

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has entered the SSD market. The company apparently only uses its brand name to sell the drives, according to a Japanese website the drives are likely no more than rebranded OCZ Vertex 460 SSDs.

The Panasonic SSDs are available in capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB and feature a SATA-3  interface. They come in a 2.5"/7mm form-factor including a 3.5" adapter, screws and case badge stickers. The SSDs also come with data cloning and SSD Toolbox software.

The Japanese website reports that the drives are based on OCZ’s Indilinx Barefoot M10 controller and we suspect that's accompanied by Toshiba’s 2nd generation 19 nm MLC NAND.

Given the fact that it uses a Barefoot controller and the fact that Panasonic reports specifications that match those of OCZ’s Vertex 460 SSDs, we suspect it's no more than a rebrand of that drive. We don't know whether Panasonic is also using the OCZ firmware or has created its own.
