PC case manufacturer Silverstone releases 6x slim type Blu-ray writer

Silverstone, best known from their computer cases, has announced a slim type Blu-ray writer. The SOB02 is the first optical drive ever from the company and seems to be mainly introduced to fill the gap that other manufacturers leave.

There are currently only a handful of manufacturers for optical drives and there are even less slot loading slim line Blu-ray writers. As Silverstone has many computers cases in which only slim line drives fit, it seems the company decided to market them themselves.

The drive should perfectly fit in Silverstone cases like the Milo series ML02B, Sugo SG05, SG06, SG07, SG08, SG09 and Fortress FT03, FT03-MINI. It  has a height of 12,7 mm, a  depth of 128 mm and width of 129 mm.  Blu-ray recordables are written with a maximum of 6x, DVD-Rs at 8x and CD-Rs at 24x. Read speeds are 6x for BD-ROM,  8x DVD-ROM and 24x CD-ROM.

It comes bundled with Cyberlink PowerDVD BD suite and a 90 degree angled slim-SATA connector. It will be sold for around 160 EURO ($200 USD)  and should become available around the 26th of April.
