Pioneer announces external and internal BDXL writers

Pioneer Japan today announced the availability of two Blu-ray burners, the portable USB 3.0 BDR-XD05J and the SATA BDR-209JBK. The latter is an internal Blu-ray burner which supports burning to BD-R discs up to 16x, DVDs at 16x and CDs at a maximum of 40x.

The BDR-209JBK writes at 8x to triple-layer (100GB) BD-R media, 6x at  quad-layer (128GB) BD-Rs and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media is written at 2x.

The BDR-XD05J is a compact and lightweight external USB 3.0 drive. The USB cable is used to transfer data but also to power the drive. It can write to BD-R discs at a maximum of 6x and triple and quad-layer (BDXL) discs are written at a maximum of 4x. DVDs can be burned at a maximum of 8x and CDs 24x.

Both drives support BDXL discs and feature Pioneer's PureRead2 technology which should result in the best possible audio CD playback.
