Play DVD movies on your smartphone soon

From the "I've got to see it to believe it" category comes this new software from Makayama. They are claiming that you can put a full length dvd on a 128 megabyte flashcard then set back (or forward) and enjoy the film in great quality and stereo sound. The Amsterdam based company says they will offer the product 'soon'.

Take your DVD's on the plane, train or automobile, watch them on vacation, at work or at school. With only two clicks, this PC software automatically converts the content of your DVD to a super small movie file, which will play on any Windows Smartphone 2002/2003 device, such as SPV, Motorola MPX200 and Mitac Mio, on a postage stamp size memory card.

You can use a headset or the built-in speaker to listen to the sound. Subtitled and foreign language DVDs are also supported. You wil have to see the quality to believe it, please download the trial version. Using MPEG4 encoding, feature films look crisp and sharp on your phone and still fit on a relatively small Secure Digital card. On a 512 megabyte SD card you can even crunch 4 feature films ! And after watching them, you can put 4 new ones on, over and over again.

They offer a trial version for DVD to pocket PC that let's you encode 5 minutes of a film for a test if you are curious enough. When the smartphone software becomes available, compatible devices will include, Motorola MPX-200, Orange Motorola MPx200, Orange SPV E200, Qtek 7070, Samsung i600.
