Playstation 4 doesn't playback CDs and MP3s out of the box

Sony's next generation console, the Playstation 4 is not able to playback CDs and MP3 files out of the box. According to the President of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida,  the company is currently investigating how playback of both will be supported in the future.

According to Yoshida the company had not expected so much criticism on the fact that the Playstation 4 doesn't support playback of MP3 files and CDs.  The lack of support for CDs and MP3s is certainly no conspiracy to PS4 owners to force them to subscribe to Sony's Music Unlimited streaming music service, ensures Yoshida.

He also states that Sony is working on introducing MP3 and CD playback but he has no idea how and when that will happen. Sony's next-generation console also doesn't support DLNA, it's unclear if Sony will also add support for that in a future update but Sony has states it's looking at it.  DLNA makes it easy to share digital content between multiple devices and the trade organisation  behind it, the Digital Living Network Alliance was established by Sony in 2003.
