Lite-On has just announced its new 6x internal Blu-ray Disc Combo called iHES206. The iHES206 provides consumers with an all-in-one solution. Users will have the possibility to play high-definition content, but will also maintain the capability of archiving data onto CD or DVD.

PLDS says in its press release that the iHES206 is “a great solution for enthusiasts who wish to enjoy the advanced technologies of Blu-ray in home-entertainment”.

“Now that Blu-ray is becoming a widely accepted and popular format for High Definition video playback, we want to offer the consumer another solution to enjoy Blu-ray on their PC,” says Jelmer Veldman, Marketing Manager for Lite-On in Europe.

The iHES206 is equipped with LightScribe disc labeling that allows users to burn custom made silkscreen labels with any type of artwork. The product will be launched in November and costs €139.

Agree with Coolios. Not worth it if you can't burn BD. Also, not sure if BD burning in itself is worth it since BD-Rs are so expensive.

BD-Rs so expensive? How about $6 (check rima.com, amazon or ebay)? And if you live in Japan, it's even less (I read $4?).

$4-6 for 25GB BD-R is not so expensive vs $2 8.5GB DVD DL.

@ blue

I get my 8.5 GB DVD+R DL for less than $1 each at Future Shop or Best Buy.

@Duke: what sort and are they reliable? I don't think you can get Verb DVD+R DL printable for $1 each I've seen crap made in hong kong dual layer with fake ricoh codes for about $1 and of about 30 discs, none work after a few weeks to a couple of months.

Blu-Ray writers & players

  • Blu-ray has won the war for the new high definition optical format. More frequently manufacturers are presenting laptops and desktops which feature a blu-ray drive. Blu-ray players are only able to read Blu-ray (and CD/DVD) media, whereas Blu-ray writers are able to write Blu-ray, CD and DVD media. At the moment blank Blu-ray drives are still rather expensive though, but Blu-ray offers high storage capacity which makes it an excellent back-up medium.More about this
