Pres. Obama continues anti-video game crusade

During a recent presentation in front of U.S. school children, President Barack Obama urged the kids to spend less time in front of the PC and TV playing video games.

"I've talked about teachers' responsibility for inspiring students and pushing you to learn," Obama said during his speech.  "I've talked about your parents' responsibility for making sure you stay on track and you get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with the Xbox."

Obama's most recent talk of gaming, one of many, has some bloggers and analysts concerned Obama has an anti-video game stances.  During a different speech in front of the American Medical Association, Obama noted that video games are directly involved with unhealthy lifestyles of Americans.

On one hand, he's right that the focus should be on academics -- especially as the U.S. continues to fall further behind in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields -- though some believe he is taking it a bit too far.

In a different speech, Obama spoke to fathers across the country, saying it's time to put down the game controller, and pick up a book.

I obviously understand Obama's concern, but I think he needs to leave behind the apparent anti-video game stance he has been on as of late.  Without discussing too many politics in regards to Obama and his policies, but I'm one of many people who believe there are more pressing issues for the president to deal with at the moment.
