The general manager of SSD manufacturer Apacer, CK Chang, has stated in an interview that prices of 256GB SSDs will drop below $70 in the second half of this year. Due to improved production methods of the NAND memory used in SSDs it's possible to cut down cost substantially.
According to Chang, prices of 128GB SSD drives could go as low as $40. In our Myce SSD Price Index from November, the cheapest SSD, close to 256GB , was a Kingston 240GB SSD priced $87. If the Apacer general manager is right, this means that SSD prices will drop with 25% between now and the second half of this year.
Our 2014 November Myce SSD Price Index showed an decrease of SSD prices of 20% compared to August 2014, which is a clear indication how fast SSD prices are currently dropping.
