pureSilicon is now promoting a new 2.5-inch solid-state drive (SSD) with a storage capacity of 1TB, as more manufacturers continue to boost the size of their SSD offerings.
The company’s new Nitro SSD is "the most compact SSD per gigabyte: 15.40GB per cubic centimeter in a 2.5-inch form-factor," according to the company. The drive fits 15.40GB of data storage per cubic centimeter of the drive, which is "three times greater than any other SSD on the market."
The new SATA II — up to 300MB/s — drives are designed for the enterprise, but could be moved to the consumer market in the future. The drive has a read/write speed of 240MB/s and 215MB/s, pureSilicon said in a press statement.

Expect to see this 1TB SSD used in data centers for super computing and possibly for military data operations, and with the likely extremely high price tag, it’s not likely many consumers would be able to afford it any way.
There are also 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB drives to complement the 1TB drive.
SSDs appear to be the storage technology of the future, but the drives are still too expensive for manufacturers to launch more consumer-based models. Furthermore, it’s nice to see more SSDs reach the 1TB milestone, as it’s possible to purchase multiple HDDs with 500GB and 1TB of storage.
