R.I.P. Iomega - brand name to disappear, products continued

A Dutch website reports that the brand name Iomega will disappear. The company was acquired by IT and enterprise solution provider EMC in 2008 for about $213 million. In August 2012 EMC announced a joint venture with computer manufacturer Lenovo and together they used the Iomega brand.

Iomega is well known for computer storage products ranging from NAS products, DVD writers and external HDDs but is probably best known for their Jaz and Zip drives that used a replaceable cartridge with capacities of up to 1 GB and of which millions were sold when computer storage capacities were measured in Megabytes instead of Gigabytes.

At CES 2013 in Las Vegas the Iomega products were now branded Lenovo and LenovoEMC, e.g. the 4-bay ix4 is now branded Lenovo and the 2-bay px2-300d is now branded LenovoEMC. When asked, LenevoEMC stated that the Iomega brand name will be discontinued marking the end of a well known name in the computer storage industry.
