Recent Windows 10 Update made users vulnerable to third party tracking - privacy settings not retained

The recently released large Windows 10 update changed the privacy settings of some users. Due to the changed settings it was easier for advertisers to track them. Microsoft today reported the issue and this is also the reason why the update, also known as November / Fall update or Threshold 2, was withdrawn as we reported earlier.

Yesterday the company released an update to solve the issue and made the November update available again. Microsoft apologizes for the inconvenience and will correct the privacy settings of affected users. It's unknown how the company is able to find them and how it can revert the changes.

The bug in the largest update until now for Microsoft's latest operating system caused that settings for advertisement ids, background apps, SmartScreen filter and the synchronization between devices weren't retained. On the update page the software giant writes that only an "extremely small number of people" is affected by the bug.
