Righthaven website sells for a measly $3,300

Going once, going twice, sold: One URL formerly belonging to Righthaven. The online auction for the copyright troll's official website has closed, and unfortunately for the group the winning bid won't cover much of its considerable court fees.

Righthaven.com was listed at domain name auction house SnapNames by its court-appointed receiver Lara Pearson in December. The page spent more than a week and a half on the block and garnered 11 bids before the winning buyer stepped up on Friday.

If being slapped with $34,000 in court fees following the failed prosecution of alleged copyright infringer Wayne Hoehn wasn't bad enough, Righthaven's site site sold for just $3,300. That cash will go to Hoehn, who won his case against the company last August.

The amount is both a fraction of the successful defendant's court-awarded fee, and an even smaller fraction of what Righthaven must pay in general.

Marc Randazza, who represented Hoehn at trial, said at his personal blog that the group owes his client $63,000. In total, the company is on the hook for more than $216,000 due to defendants it failed to prosecute in other pirate hunts. (via Righthaven Victims)
