Rumor: Intel to release mobile U & H Skylake CPUs in October

Intel will reportedly release 18 new processors of the Skylake generation for laptops in the 4th quarter of this year, starting in October. That's a few months after the release of the first desktop chips which should become available in August this year.

The new information about the introduction of mobile Skylake processors in October comes from Digitimes, which has a hit and miss history on the truthfulness of rumors. However the site often receives correct information from sources within Taiwanese hardware manufacturers.

Laptop manufacturers are clearing their stock of current machines with Intel Broadwell chips, according to Digitimes. This goes slow due to the lower demand in Europe and disappointing sales in China. Previous rumors from the Chinese website Benchlife stated Skylake U and H processors would ship as early as September but that site also claimed the first desktop chips would be announced at Intel's IDF in August, while currently most people believe they will be announced during Gamescom in Cologne.

Skylake offers a new architecture with likely improvements on power consumption and GPU performance. The first Skylake processors will be the Core i5 6600K and i7 6700K for desktops. Skylake quickly succeeds Broadwell, in June Intel announced the first mobile Broadwell quad-core.
