Samsung intros 500 GB variant of its 750 EVO SSD

In its quest to continue dominating the sales charts, Samsung has added another drive to its 750 EVO SSD lineup.

This new model in the value-oriented lineup features a 500 GB capacity, doubling the previous max capacity of 250 GB. This should provide a smooth transition between Samsung's EVO lines for anyone who may want the 500 GB capacity, but isn't sure they need the higher real-world performance of the 850 EVO.

Powered by Samsung's in-house MGX controller (similar to other 750 & 850 EVO models) & TLC planar NAND (like the smaller 750 EVO models), and employing TurboWrite SLC-emulation caching, the newest 750 EVO claims specs of 540 MB/s read [peak sequential] & 520 MB/s write [peak sequential] like the earlier models, all being slung over the now ubiquitous SATA 6G (6 Gbit/s) interface. Due to the NAND used, we can expect that average performance will not be quite as spectacular, but the bump in capacity should allow for some improvement over the abilities of the 250 GB variant.

Samsung backs the drive with a 3 year / 100 TBW warranty; the latter is a modest increase over the smaller capacities, wherein the 250 GB model is warrantied up to 70 terabyte writes. The new addition is slotting in with an MSRP of $149.99 (USD), which neatly doubles the $75 MSRP of its smaller 250 GB sibling. Samsung's 850 EVO line comes close to that same price point at retail, and matches that MSRP when on sale, meaning the 750 EVO line a a whole will likely see retail prices well below what Samsung suggests in due time.

The drive should be available 'worldwide' in June, and is expected to bring its smaller siblings along to any regions in which they aren't already sold.
