Samsung Smart TV and phone platform down – major outage due fire
At the moment users from around the world are complaining their Samsung Smart TV with SmartHub doesn’t connect to the internet and gives the message, ‘ERROR_MODEL_BIND’. Also Samsung Blu-ray players that use an internet connection seem to suffer from the outage, Samsung phones give error messages and also the Samsung website seems to load slowly.
We’ve just talked to Samsung Support employee who confirmed the issue, as she said, ‘Yes, we are aware of this issue related to the Network server on the Samsung Smart devices. I suggest you wait for few hours as our Technicians are working on the issue. The issue should be isolated within few hours automatically.’
The culprit might be a fire in Samsung Datacenter which is reported by several South Korean Twitter users.
The fire has been burning for a couple of already and the center is a backup location of Samsung’s datacenter in the city Suwon. Although both the fire and the outage appeared on the same time, it’s unclear whether both events are related.
Strangely enough users report that also third party applications don’t work anymore. It appears that in order to use any application on a Smart TV, the TV connects to the Samsung servers.
Update: Samsung confirms the issues are related. The fire has caused the outage, no Samsung employees were hurt during the fire.
Update2: The issues seem to be resolved for most users

All Internet traffic from Samsung smart to goes via samsung servers?
I was considering one of their 9000 series uhd, but after reading about this, that idea is kaput.
Relying on someone else's server/proxy is just retarded.
I've heard reports odd the same for Samsung smart phones/tablets.
Custom firmware ftw!
