Sandisk announces Ultra II series SSDs with TLC NAND

SanDisk today announced their new Ultra II SSDs of which the manufacturer claims they perform better than Samsung 840 EVO and Crucial MX100 drives. The combination of a Marvell 88SS9187 controller and second generation 19nm TLC NAND should be responsible for that. The drives are available in capacities of 120GB, 240GB, 480GB and 960GB.

Sandisk specifies sequential read and write speeds for the 120 and 240GB drives of 550 MB/s and 500 MB/s respectively. The achieved IOPS for the 120 GB model is 81K for random reads and 80K IOPS for random writes. The 240 GB model has random reads and writes of 91K IOPS and 83K IOPS respectively.

According to Sandisk this means they are on average faster than most competitor SSDs with the same capacity and the company specifically mention the Samsung 840 EVO and the Crucial MX100.

Later this year, Sandisk hopes to release 480GB and 960GB drives that should offer similar sequential reads and writes but are specified with higher random reads and writes. All drives come with a three year warranty.
