Seagate has unveiled three different 10TB HDDs models, a drive for the desktop usage, one for NAS usage and one developed for video surveillance. All drives are only available in a 3.5" form factor and feature Seagate's MTC technology. Platters of the 10 TB HDDs spin at 7,200 RPM.

The 10 TB Barracuda Pro is the HDD for desktop usage and it targeted at consumers. The drive has a 256MB cache and features Seagate's Multi Tier Cache (MTC) technology, which according to Seagate is, "an intelligent caching architecture".

The BarraCuda Pro might not be Seagate's first 10TB HDD, it is the first that is really aimed at consumer usage instead of enterprise applications. The BarraCuda Pro 10TB HDD (ST10000DM0004) has a MSRP of $535 but is currently listed at Amazon at $508. Seagate specifies a transfer rate of 220MB/s.

The 10TB drive targeted for NAS systems is called the Seagate IronWolf 10TB  (ST10000VN0004). It has a MSRP of $470 but is currently listed at Amazon at $448.99. Because it is targeted at NAS usage it has specific features that should make it better suitable for that specific task. Therefore the drive has rotational vibration sensors to mitigate vibration in multi-drive systems, RAID optimization for best performance with error recovery control, and advanced power management providing power savings in NAS systems. The IronWolf 10TB HDD is slower than the BarraCuda Pro model, with a specified transfer date of 210 MB/s.

The last 10TB HDD that Seagate unveiled today is the SkyHawk 10TB that is specifically designed for surveillance. It has a MSRP of $460 but Amazon lists it for $438.99. Seagate hasn't disclosed much more information on the other than that it features also rotational vibration sensors. The drive is likely slightly slower than the other two, which would explain its lower price.

While Seagate has not disclosed a release date, Amazon reports it should ship within 2 to 4 weeks.
