Most of the time when we talk about anti-piracy measures for a PC game it isn’t a particularly positive discussion. In the case of Serious Sam 3: BFE, DRM is still evil but in a completely different, kind of hilarious, way.

It seems that the latest venture from developer Croteam has a very special DRM measure built into the game. That DRM comes in the form of a giant, red, immortal, scorpion that will hunt your character down until you are dead. People who legally obtain the game either via Steam or retail won’t ever see this immortal enemy.
This video shows the degrading, immortal enemy at work. Honestly, I think this is a hilarious way to include DRM in your game. It doesn’t punish the players who purchased the game legally in any way and provides hours of entertainment to those of us willing to scour message boards for frustrated pirates who encounter the enemy and complain about how bad the game is because of it.
Now if more companies would sink a little time into clever DRM like this instead of forcing players to be online while playing their single player games, I think most PC gamers would be very pleased. What do you think of Croteam’s version of DRM? Let us know in the comments.
