South Korean memory giant SK Hynix has developed a 128GB DDR4 module. The company claims to the first to manufacture a DDR4 module with that capacity. Hynix wants to start mass production of the modules in the first quarter of 2015.
The module consists of several 8GB 20 nm class DDR4 chips and uses TSV(Through Silicon Via) technology to achieve the capacity. The memory works at 2133 Mbps and with a 64-bit I/O it processes up to 17GB of data per second. It's also more energy efficient as it runs at 1.2V instead of the 1.35V of DDR3.
Besides a 128GB module, the company also plans to manufacture a 64GB version. The company has not disclosed any information on pricing and availability.
