SK Hynix heavily invests in new NAND memory factory

South Korean memory manufacturer SK Hynix has announced it will invest $2.6 billion to boost its NAND production. The company hopes to keep up with the increasing demand for mobile and computer storage this way.

SK Hynix is the second largest NAND manufacturer and to keep its position the company has decided to built an entire new factory near Seoul in South Korea. In this factory the company will produce NAND memory specifically for mobile phones.

The company will also heavily invest in its factory in Wuxi, China. Here, SK Hynix makes DRAM here and with the investment it hopes to boost the production over there.

Prices of NAND have been increasing a lot recently because demand is higher than expected. More and more manufacturers want to use the faster NAND storage chips both in smartphones as in regular computers.

SK Hynix will have to wait a little before it can reap the benefits of its investments, the factory should be ready no early than June 2019.
