Electronics giant Sony reported its first profit in 5 years, boosted by the sales of offices in Tokyo and New York and a weak Yen. The company posted an operational profit of 230 billion Yen where it made a loss of 67,3 billion Yen last year. Sony's electronics products aren't the the main profit drivers, revenues of camera, game and home products have fallen.
Nevertheless the company made a small profit on game and camera products but Sony had to take a large loss in its TV and audio division. Also the demand for Sony TVs and camera's has decreased. Sony expects that with the release of new high-end home entertainment sets the company will increase its profits. Also the release of the Playstation 4 later this year should contribute to that.
Many Myce readers see Sony as an evil company, it's known for implementing a wide range of copy protections. In 2007 one of these protections modified the operating system with a rootkit, since then Sony has received a lot of bad press. However the main reason Sony is making losses is the fierce competition from Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean electronics manufacturers.
