Sony pulls PS Vita Facebook app from UK & US online shops

Sony's new handheld the PS Vita hit North American and European shores last week. Thanks to technical problems which resulted in its Facebook app being pulled, the device maintained a status quo: video game hardware launches aren't flawless. Just ask Nintendo and Microsoft.

Eurogamer reported last week that SCEE removed the app from the online PS Store just one day after publishing it. A bug prevented users who had already downloaded the software from logging in on the Vita and checking their status updates.

Sony Europe won't say exactly what the issue is (or when it will be fixed), but a community team moderator at the official Vita forum confirmed the bug stems from Facebook's side, not the system itself. "The Vita Facebook application has been removed from the store," said the spokesperson. "It will be republished once the difficulties Facebook have experienced have been resolved, currently there is no timescale for this."

The Facebook app met the same fate across the pond, with SCEA similarly unsure when it will be available again. Speaking to Joystiq, a U.S. rep said the company was working to restore the app as soon as possible and promised more details were on the way.
