Owners of a Sony Ultra HD TV in the United States will soon get access to a new Ultra HD streaming service called Ultra. The service allows the purchase of Ultra HD Blu-ray movies with HDR at around $30.When using the service an investment in an Ultra HD Blu-ray player is not needed.
Ultra will be released on the 4th of April this year and allows users to purchase videos instead of renting them. This is also why the movies are similar priced to physical discs. The benefit of the service should, besides convenience, also be the fact that an investment in a Ultra HD Blu-ray player is not needed.
Users who already purchased other movies and want to see the Ultra HD version can get a discounted price for the movie in Ultra HDF thanks to Sony's UltraViolet service.
The current offering include newer titles like Concussion and The Walk, as well as older films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
