Sony shows off new USB 3.0 flash drives

Sony has unveiled some details about their USB 3.0 flash drives. The Micro Vault MACH series of drives are capble of hitting up to 120MB/s read speeds and come in a decent variety of sizes.

The Micro Vault MACH flash drives from Sony are going to be available in 8, 16, 32, and 64GB capacities. The 8GB drive will be able to hit read speeds of up to 60MB/s while the other capacities are claimed to reach 120MB/s read speeds. Sony's press release doesn't officially announce write speeds for any of the devices although Sony did note that the 64GB model managed to hit a write speed of 90MB/s in their internal testing.

The rest of the spec lists for the devices are fairly standard as far as USB flash drives go. Each device has a retractable connector, indicator light, and a 5 year warranty. The drives are also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices, which is nice if you currently own any Mac in addition to a machine that happens to actually have a USB 3.0 port.

The drives are due to be released at the end of this month. Despite the fact that January only has about 2 weeks left, Sony still hasn't put a price out there for these drives yet. I would imagine they would fall in line with other USB 3.0 flash drives and hit at around $30 to $100 depending on how much capacity you need.
