Sony to bundle movies, games for UK 3DTV launch

Early adopters of Sony's first Bravia 3D HDTV release in the United Kingdom will also be given four free PlayStation 3D video games and two 3D movies.

The Bravia HX803 HDTV (with 1080p support) has a 200Hz refresh rate and uses a simulated 3D technology that scales 2D images up to 3D imagery.  Sony will launch 40-inch and 46-inch models, but pricing information hasn't been released.

Buyers will receive a copy of the following four games when they purchase a TV: Super Stardust HD, PAIN, Wipeout HD, and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.  3D versions of the movies Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and Deep Sea will also be included in the freebie bundle.

Sony has invested heavily in both Blu-ray and 3D, with the Japanese electronics company trying to woo consumers to purchase more products for the living room.  The PlayStation 3 trailed the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360, but has finally started to pick up steam and is predicted to win the long term console war.

Sony will rely on both its standalone Blu-ray players and Bravia HDTV products to support high-definition and the new 3D products market.  Bundling 3D game titles with the TV is a good marketing ploy, and it should help to generate press and consumer buzz about Sony's new 3D products.

The new Sony 3DTVs will be available in time for the World Cup this June, which will be broadcasted in 3D.
